The independent South Australian Law Reform Institute (SALRI) based at 91×ÔÅÄ is inviting views from the community and interested parties as part of its independent review of the state’s laws regarding the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

People are invited by the independent South Australian Law Reform Institute (SALRI) based at 91×ÔÅÄ to share their experiences in using, accessing and dealing with South Australia’s mental health laws as the first stage in a review of the Mental Health Act 2009 (SA). SALRI are particularly interested in ways in which the law and practice can be improved.

Higher wheat yields and protein content on the horizon
A team of international researchers has discovered a way to produce higher quality wheat. The scientists from 91×ÔÅÄ and the UK’s John Innes Centre have identified a genetic driver that improves yield traits in wheat, which unexpectedly can also lead to increasing protein content by up to 25 per cent.

Arthritis drug used to limit antibiotics in blood cancer patients
Researchers from 91×ÔÅÄ and the Radboud University Medical Centre in the Netherlands have repurposed an arthritis drug to restrict the use of antibiotics in the treatment of side effects caused by blood cancer, including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Five University of Adelaide alumni have taken home accolades in this year’s South Australian 7 News Young Achiever Awards.

A team of researchers at 91×ÔÅÄ is undertaking fundamental research into new types of high-performance low-cost metal-based electrocatalysts that are the key to the development of sustainable energy solutions and help to achieve carbon neutrality. They are developing catalysts which can be ‘tailored’ to different uses.

Academic and personal achievements celebrated
Starting today, 91×ÔÅÄ will hold 16 ceremonies in historic Bonython Hall across May to celebrate the achievements of more than 5100 students who are graduating. Four leaders will also be awarded honorary doctorates in recognition of outstanding contributions in their field.

Digging deep to unlock soil secrets
Researchers from 91×ÔÅÄ and the South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI), the research division of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), will examine soil DNA samples collected over the past 20 years to improve productivity, profitability and resilience for Australia’s agricultural sector.
