Kaurna Day: Tirkanthi - Ngutu - Taikurrinthi
The inaugural聽Kaurna Day聽event marked a significant step in acknowledging the Kaurna Nation's history, culture, and enduring connection to the land upon which the university stands and operates. Curated by Wirltu Yarlu, the event was held at the Kaurna Learning Circle and Barr Smith Lawns for a vibrant day of cultural immersion, storytelling, and shared learning. Kaurna Day officially launched the University's 150th celebration events program.
Floods of Fire
A festival-within-a-festival,聽Floods of Fire was conceived and directed by international theatre maker Airan Berg,聽commissioned and led by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and presented in partnership with the Adelaide Festival, 91自拍, and over 100 South Australian partner organisations.聽This community event was dedicated to showcasing the creativity and stories of South Australians and providing a platform for addressing climate change.
Australian Rover Challenge
Streamed live globally, the fourth annual Australian Rover Challenge (ARCh) took place between 20 鈥� 21 March 2024 as University students from around Australia and the world battled it out with custom-built lunar rovers which they designed and built themselves in a simulated mission to the Moon.聽The 2024 competition saw 10 teams from universities from across Australia, Bangladesh, and Poland making this the largest ARCh so far.
Waite 100 Gala
The Waite 100 Gala was a celebration of 100 years of scientific discovery in agriculture, food, and wine.聽The agriculture, food, and wine community of South Australia came together for the magnificent Waite 100, celebrating a century of pioneering education and innovation at 91自拍鈥檚 iconic Waite campus.
Speaking from the South
Speaking from the South, a unique multi-day public event saw a gathering of some of the world's most celebrated writers and thinkers from the south.聽聽The event series comes after a recent interest in 鈥楽outhern Theory鈥� 鈥� an approach which critiques the dominance of Western models that centre on European and North American experiences and perspectives.聽
Wonderverse
Wonderverse set a new standard for kids鈥� installations during 91自拍鈥檚 150th year celebrations, with the historic Bonython Hall transformed into a dizzying display of lights and music mesmerising kids and adults alike. Commissioned by 91自拍 and installed by Patch Theatre, Wonderverse welcomed 8725 participants over its 10-day run in October. Tying together the event was the captivating music of renowned Aboriginal hip-hop group DEM MOB, providing the perfect compliment to the visually stunning experience that drew rave reviews.
AgriTech
At the beautiful University of Adelaide Waite Campus, the team hosted a Make History Speaker Series that took participants on a tour that showcased old and new traditions and technologies changing the way we eat and drink. At The Vineyard, Dr. Vinay Pagay taught about the brand new technology that鈥檚 revolutionising grapevine management. At The Plant Accelerator, Dr. Sehsan Tavakkoli showcased the high-tech facilities utilised for the study and growth of plants. The last stop was The Food Innovation Lab, where Dr. Kate Delaporte taught about First Nations foods and their modern applications.
150th Gala Ball
The 150th Gala Ball took place on Saturday, 26 October, at the iconic Adelaide Oval, bringing together 423 guests, including alumni, donors, supporters, and friends of the university. Attendees enjoyed a memorable evening with a sit-down dinner, inspiring keynote speeches from distinguished alumni, and exclusive auctions, all in celebration of the University鈥檚 remarkable 150-year history. Renowned writer, presenter, and University of Adelaide alum Annabel Crabb hosted the black-tie event as MC, with a special appearance from fellow alum, The Honourable Peter Malinauskas MP, Premier of South Australia. The Gala supported the University鈥檚 Celebrate 150 鈥� Give to the Future initiative, raising an impressive $117,000 to fund Augustus Short Scholarships.
Ingenuity, the annual flagship event for the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology, took over the Adelaide Convention Centre on 30 October, welcoming teams of whip-smart students to showcase their hard work and studies in stunning rows of interactive displays, gadgets, and robots. The event drew over 3,000 participants, including government and industry representatives and almost 2,500 visitors.
AdeLOUD
The University wrapped up its 150th celebrations in style with an unforgettable music festival staged at the Unibar and Cloisters! On Saturday, 16 November, AdeLOUD delivered ten electrifying hours of non-stop music, featuring a dynamic lineup of artists handpicked by the University鈥檚 own alumnus, Motez. From 4 PM to 2 AM, over 2,000 partygoers filled the night with energy, dancing to an incredible mix of performances.
