Science Alive 2025!
Science Alive once again brought together three days of curious students, engaged families, thoughtful questions, and hands-on science experiences.ÌýThis year, many IPAS members, including Dr Chris Perella and Dr Ben Sparkes, contributed to outreach activities through the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP) SA Branch, with volunteers from both the AIP and the Adelaide Optics Chapter.
Three IPAS Winners at 3MT Faculty Final
IPAS was proudly represented by five outstanding students at the 2025 Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology (SET) Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition. Three are moving up to the University wide final.
Our Poppies the pick of the bunch
Congratulations to Dr Sarah Scholten, who has won a 2025 Young Tall Poppy Science Award by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science.ÌýSarah is working on the next generation of atomic clocks, developing a compact high-stability clock that outperforms GPS navigation systems for defence applications.
IPAS Spinoff Goes to Space
Australia is about to launch a quantum clock into space, testing its reliability and performance, a first step in creating our "own secure GPS system", impossible to spoof and very difficult to jam and detect due to its quantum nature. The manufacturers, QuantX Labs is an IPAS Spinoff born from our Chief Innovators, Prof Andre Luiten, optical clocks researches.
Wrist plate to help fractures heal faster
An innovative new device which will help wrist fractures heal faster and can be fitted more easily by surgeons has been developed, and will be manufactured, in South Australia.
