Could wave energy converters protect Australian coastlines?

An article outlining a collaborative project (ARC linkage) between researchers and industry partners from 91����, Swinburne University, the University of New South Wales, Victoria’s Moyne Shire Council and Western Australia’s Mid West Ports Authority on wave energy converters for controlling coastal processes has been published in pv magazine this month.

Wave energy converters remove the energy from waves and could become an important source of both renewable energy and coastal protection from extreme weather for Australia.

It is hoped the technology could offer ‘… protection and green electricity without radically altering marine ecosystems and aesthetics’.
