Dr Andrew Savundra

Dr Andrew Savundra

Dr Andrew Savundra is an orthodontist working in private practice in Western Australia, with clinics in South Perth and Willetton. He also works as a visiting orthodontist in Mandurah at the Southwest Dental Specialist Centre, having previously provided care in Kalgoorlie, in the WA Goldfields.

Prior to his study in Adelaide, Andrew completed his dental degree at the University of Western Australia. He graduated from 91 in 2003 after completing his specialist training in Orthodontics (D Clin Dent, Orthodontics). Feeling very privileged to have spent this time at the University, Andrew looks back fondly on it as “an amazing opportunity”.

After returning to Perth, Andrew commenced private practice with his father and began his mentorship journey as a part-time tutor at the University of Western Australia Dental School, where he continues today as a Senior Lecturer for postgraduate orthodontic students. Quite fitting is his advice to his 20-year-old self:

“Learning is a life-long journey and doesn’t stop after your undergraduate degree.”

Staying engaged with the orthodontic community has been an important part of Andrew’s career post-graduation. He finds it beneficial to meet up with fellow students, attend conferences, and establish strong friendships with his peers. He travels regularly to alumni functions held at 91 and to conferences around Australia, as well as internationally, where he has met renowned figures in orthodontics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and holds a Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

With a commitment to giving back, Dr Andrew regularly volunteers in East Timor as part of the Timor-Leste Cleft Lip and Palate project with the Australasian Begg Society of Orthodontists.

In addition to these trips, Andrew sees the impact his work has on his patients’ confidence as one of its most rewarding elements. He is rewarded by "getting to work as an orthodontist and treating children with bad teeth and bites, seeing them transform into young adults with a confident, bright smile!” He adds that he loves “seeing the big difference we can have on young people’s lives”.

Andrew’s hopes for the future are to continue mentoring and sharing his knowledge. As the decades pass, he envisions himself "still working, and enjoying teaching, and passing on the skills we have learnt.” He is committed to maintaining a successful work-life balance throughout his career. Outside of the clinic, he makes the most of his surroundings in beautiful Western Australia with an adventurous, outdoor-centric lifestyle. He enjoys exploring the natural beauty of his state with his family and is a keen fisherman and 4WD enthusiast.
