AIML Research Seminar: A Couple of AI4Space Problems
- Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2024, 10:30 am - 11:15 am
- Location: AIML
- Dr Chee Kheng (CK) Chng Postdoctoral Researcher
Abstract: We鈥檙e living in an exciting new space era, where the cost of 鈥榞oing into space鈥 has dropped significantly, and the reasons for doing so have expanded dramatically. It鈥檚 not just about the numbers anymore鈥攚e鈥檙e tackling highly sophisticated tasks that once existed only in sci-fi novels. This surge in scale and complexity is why we turn to AI.
Over the past few years, I鈥檝e had the privilege of working on AI4Space problems, first as a PhD candidate and now as a postdoc. In this talk, I鈥檒l share a couple of interesting challenges I鈥檝e worked on, including one tied to a space mission and another from an industrial project. These problems focus on enabling autonomous navigation in space and advancing space domain awareness.
The AI side of this work involves robotics and computer vision. The problems I鈥檒l discuss sit at the intersection of at least two areas from the attached Venn diagram鈥攍ike Robotics 脳 Space, Vision 脳 Space, or even Robotics 脳 Vision 脳 Space. If you鈥檙e working in鈥攐r curious about鈥攁ny of these intersections, come check out this talk.
Note: Cool space images and videos included.
